SBC SELPA is committed to providing families, parents, and caregivers with information, resources, and guidance related to early childhood development and special education.
Our goal is to help families understand available supports and services, navigate the special education process, and access tools that promote their child's learning, growth, and success. Through collaboration and shared resources, we aim to empower families to be active partners in supporting positive outcomes for young children with developmental needs and disabilities.
The overarching message is that young children learn best when families, educators, service providers, and community agencies work together to provide early, individualized, and inclusive supports that help children participate fully in everyday learning experiences

What is Early Start?
Early Start Services in Santa Barbara County provide early intervention supports for infants and toddlers from birth to age 3 who have developmental delays, disabilities, or established risk conditions, helping families address developmental needs during the earliest years of life. These family-centered services may include developmental assessments, speech and language support, occupational and physical therapy, family education, and transition planning, all designed to promote children's learning, participation, and successful development. - Desired Results Developmental Profile Assessment, DRDP 2025
The Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) is an observation-based assessment tool used by teachers and service providers to understand and monitor a young child’s growth and progress across areas such as social-emotional development, language and literacy, cognition, and physical development. It helps families and educators work together to identify strengths, support individual learning needs, and plan meaningful experiences that promote each child's development and school readiness.
