SELPA ADR Workshop #3: Independent Study, Home and Hospital Instruction, and Shortened Days

Independent study, home and hospital instruction, and shortened school days are often used as interventions for students who have behavioral issues, including chronic truancy. However, they are rarely effective as interventions for general education students or students with disabilities. This workshop will examine the rules for these three types of instruction for general education and students who are eligible for special education, including very specific differences and nuances in the laws. This is a particularly important topic for general education administrators, but should be attended by general and special education administrators, case managers, school psychologists, nurses, school counselors, and student services staff. This workshop is an excellent opportunity for cross-department collaboration.
